In a Group A fixture of the 17th Challengers Cup, played at the Al Mansoora Ground, Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana (NHG) faced the Vanthali Memon Association (VMA) in a match that saw the former team dominate.
Batting first, NHG were off to a solid start with opener Hassan Abbas scoring a brisk 30 runs with one four and one six in his innings. Fellow teammate Farhan Asif was however the star with the bat. His 23 ball cameo of 38 runs included 6 superb boundaries and one massive six, leading his team to a competitive total of 147 runs, at the end of the innings. The VMA bowlers bowled well with Naveed Nagda finishing with 4 wickets for 19 runs while Abdul Qadir scalped 3 wickets for 29 runs.
Chasing 148 runs at just below 7.5 runs an over, VMA took off positively with Khurram Wahab scoring a well-paced 24 runs (2 fours). However, it was Aamir Majeed whose 28 runs were critical in trying to get his team any closer to the target. Nevertheless, NHA were fantastic with the ball, Asad Ather, Faisal Mujtaba and Kashif Barooq taking 2 wickets each to restrict their opponents to 116 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana won the match by 31 runs.
