For the Blue Sharks, it just wasn’t their day at the Asifabad Ground this past Sunday at the 22nd Challengers Cup when they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Dawson Stars.
Sharks batted first and lost opener Syed Ibrahim for duck. Yasir Fazli and Jibrail Khan then held things up with knocks of 36 and 22 runs respectively but the team continued to lose wickets throughout. Ahmer Abbas tried to keep things going with a fighting 32 lower down the order joined with Zaryab Khan's 18 which helped Sharks post a respectable 143 for the loss of 8 wickets. Waqar Idrees and Zafar Ali took 2 wickets each but the bowlers lacked discipline, giving away 22 extras.
In contrast, Dawson Stars performed like the A side in this match and rather easily scored 144 in just 17.2 overs for the loss of 4 wickets to cap off the win. Hammad Sheikhani scored 51 runs from 42 balls to give his team the edge in the victory. Muqeet Nawaz took 2 wickets in vain.
Dawson Stars started off really well and this paved the way for a spectacular innings over their rivals. They won by 6 wickets.
