The knock outs of the 17th Challengers cup were underway this past Sunday with Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana (NHG) batting first against VMA Suleman Textile. Openers Ahsan and Farhan did well to put runs on the board scoring an impressive 48 and 14 runs respectively. The team however struggled thereafter, losing wickets too frequently, outdone by the VMA Suleman bowlers. Hammad Mughal then stepped in to try and save his side with a fighting knock of 31 runs but with wickets falling all around him, Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana were bowled out for 123 for 19.5 overs. VMA bowlers were outstanding with the ball, picking up wickets when most needed to damage the opposition. Imran Idrees, Naveed Rangoonia and Waqas were the key wicket takers with 2 scalps each.
In response, VMA Suleman Textile wasted no time in chasing down the target. Both openers dominated the NHG bowlers with Mirza Shoaib smashing a sublime 75 runs at the top. He was further supported by Rameez Mehboob whose 48 run innings also came at a strike rate of over 200% to help VMA chase down the target in just 8.3 overs. NHG bowlers were helpless against the onslaught with only Faisal Mujtaba able to pick up a wicket.
VMA Suleman Textile won by 9 wickets and are through to the next round of the 17th Challengers Cup!
