Benitoz Panthers v Cocoon Home
Paramount Cocoon Home Tournament Final
An absolute thriller of a contest that went down to the wire. A game that reflected why everybody loves the T20 format so much. Benitoz Panthers batted first on this momentous occasion in the final of the inaugural version of this tournament. They had a disastrous start as they were reduced to 6 runs for the loss of 3 wickets as Tabish, Madni and Ahmed Arshad were all sent back to the pavilion in quick succession. Sumail Aziz with 28 and Israr with 12 led the recovery efforts but it was Saad Ahmed who stepped up to the plate and played a glorious knock of 76 runs in 48 balls that included 3 sixes and six boundaries at a strike rate of 158%. A quick fire 20 by Mohib ensured that Panthers ended at a competitive 151 for 8 in 20 overs. For Cocoon Home Anas, Abdullah, Irfan and Kamran Butt got 2 wickets each.
The reply from Cocoon Home also was disastrous as three ducks by the top order batsmen saw them restricted to 14 for 4 as Imran Idrees took quick wickets at the top. One man, Anas Ahmed, however stood out for his defiance and continued to fight against the odds and kept scoring rapidly despite losing partners at the other end. His continuous efforts brought Cocoon to a stage where they need 25 off 2 overs but Imran Idrees bowled a superb second last over in which he only conceded two runs under ab immense pressure situation and also three batsmen were dismissed. With 23 needed off the last over, Anas continued to fight back and the match ended in a nail biting finish as Cocoon ended at 149 for 9 and lost by just 2 runs. Anas got 88 not out off 54 balls that included four sixes as well as eight boundaries. For Panthers, some extra ordinary bowling by Imran Idrees who got 5 wickets for just 9 runs in his 4 overs. Faisal Ghouri, Israr Ul Haq and Hamza also got a wicket each while there was a run out.
A fitting finale to a wonderful and highly competitive tournament as Panthers became the champions and won by just 2 runs.
