Day 2 of the Kolachi Premier League (KPL) kicked off on 31st March with some teams putting up a good fights and others simply crumbling under pressure.
Gatronova v Universal
Perhaps the most exciting high scorer of the KPL to date. Gatronova batted first with Saqib taking the game away with his unbelievable knock of 67 runs off 45 balls. Despite losing partners on the other end, he singlehandedly took his side to a total of 101 for 4 in 6 overs. Universal bowlers Hussain, Kashan and Mannan took 1 wicket each and despite doing well to restrict the rest of the batting line up to single digits, were unable to stop Saqib's onslaught.
Despite a mammoth target on the board, Universal put up a good fight. Hussain in particular producted a fiery 36 to give his team a chance to win. Cameos by Irfan and Noman saw the team inch closer to the total but a late surge by Mannan of 10 off just 5 almost saw Universal chase down the target. Khurram and Obaid struck at key times with the ball, taking 2 wickets each in their spell. Eventually it was 2 dot balls to Faisal that restricted Universal to 98 for 5 in 6 overs.
Gatronova clinched victory by 3 runs.
Chamdia Group v Metatex
Chamdia Group batted first and were in form and on fire putting up a super performance with the bat. Yasir, Sunny, Ahmer and Afaq were ruthless against the bowlers, smashing everything out of the park. Metatex bowlers were helpless, unable to pick wickets with Jabbar and Deepak in particular giving away 49 and 35 runs in their spells. Chamdia Group ended at an impossible target of 138 runs in 6 overs.
Metatex crumbled under pressure with a complete and utter collapse in the chase. Not a single one of their batsmen could reach double digits as Chamdia's bowlers showed no mercy. If Farhan's 3 wicket spell did not do enough damage, Owais and Faizan struck with 2 wickets each while a wicket each by Hassan and Saad left Metaxtex stunned. They were limited to 49 for 9 in 6 overs.
Chamdia Group won by 89 runs.
Chamdia Group v Universal
Chamdia Group were having a fantastic time on Day 2 of the KPL. The team had found their rhythm and were in form and on fire. They batted first with Talha and Ahmer building a hugely impressive partnership. They knocked 40 and 55 runs respectively to boost their team to a target of 129 for 4 in 6 overs. Universal bowlers were fruitless with only Noman and Waqas taking 1 wicket each.
Universal imploded in the face of pressure. Limited to 48 for 9 in 6 overs, there was no saving their side from defeat as they lost 9 of their players in single digits including 2 ducks. Chamdia Group were simply unstoppable with Hassan's unplayable 4 wicket haul bamboozling the batsmen. Irfan and Ameen put up some semblance of a fight with contributions of 16 and 15 but it was too little too late. Faizan picked up 2 wickets with Owais, Farhan and Saad chipping in taking 1 wicket each.
Chamdia Group won by 81 runs.
Metaxtex v Gatronova
Metatex batted first with Rizwan, Danish and Deepak putting on strong performances. They scored 20, 15 and 10 runs respectively but didn't carry their team further after a decent start. Owais and Shafiq picked up a wicket each in what turned out to be a subdued match. Metatex set a target of 60 in 6 overs.
Gatronova made easy work of the chase with opener Khurram pairing up with Saqib to see their side to victory. He scored an explosive 39 off just 14 balls while Saqib chipped in with 14 off 5. With little to defend on the board, Meta bowlers were unable restrict the flow of runs. Jabbar picked up 1 wicket but Gatronova chased down the target in 3.3 overs.
Gatronova won by 9 wickets.
Chamdia Group v Gatronova
Perhaps the two strongest teams of the day, Chamdia Group looked set to win all their matches before Gatronova disrupted their winning streak. Batting first Chamdia's opener Ahmar teamed up with Talha to set a competitive target. They scored 26 and 31 runs and saved their side from a collapse. Owais was dangerous with the ball taking 2 wickets in his spell with Zubair also taking 1 wicket. Chamdia Group ended at 83 for 4 in 6 overs.
Gatronova were in trouble when they lost opener Khurram and one down Shafiq both for duck. Saqib and Anas then paired up to take their side to an easy victory. Saqib was the star of the match with his 54* run knock coming off just 19 runs at a time when his team needed him the most. Anas's cameo of 22 provided the support his team needed. Only Chamdia bowler Saad was able to take 2 wickets but Gatronova chased down the target in 5.5 overs.
Gatronova won by 7 wickets.
