ZamZam Sports and Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana went head to head at the 17th Challengers Cup this past Sunday. Batting first, ZamZam were off to a shaky start after losing opener Amir for duck. His partner and captain Shahid Mukhtar however lead from the front partnering with Habib Ali. The pair scored 18 and 30 respectively before Mahmood Ali stepped in to propel his side's total. He smashed an impressive 65 off 40 which included 3 sixes and remained not out. Rafiq Khatak kept the momentum going with a blistering 48 off 20 at a strike rate of 240. NHJ's bowlers were unable to control the flow of runs with M.Aali being their most successful wicket taker with 2 scalps. Atif Ali and Usman Ghani also took a wicket each. ZamZam Sports ended at 186 for 5 in 20 overs.
In response NHJ faltered in their chase, losing both their openers cheaply for just 7 runs. Farrukh Rizvi and Hassan Qazi then stepped in to stabilize the innings with a much needed 37 and 78 and the team looked on track to chase the target. However after the pair were dismissed, the subsequent batsmen were unable to capitalize on a good foundation with 2 consecutive ducks that followed. Only Hammad Mughal tried to keep his team's hopes alive with a cameo of 27 but Nazeer Hussain Gymkhana were restricted to 162 for 7 in 20 overs. Imtiaz took 3 wickets and Abdul Shakoor also picked up 2 wickets to help ZamZam Sports seal the victory.
ZamZam Sports won by 24 runs.
