TEAM BLUE vs TEAM GREEN (IDEAS WOMEN’S CRICKET TOURNAMENT FINAL)
The recent performances of the Pakistan Women Cricket team in the World T20 have played an integral role in uplifting the interest of the game among women. Our women cricketers have emerged as role models for many girls in our society, someone to look up to, someone to represent them. The Ideas Women’s Cricket Tournament was just the right opportunity for the women cricketers to prove their mettle and show to the world that they are second to none.
On one side we had Team Blue who had clinched victory against Team Red in the semifinals, and were ready to compete for the title. On the other end it was Team Green who qualified for the finals by winning against Team Yellow and were eager to lift the trophy. Players from both the teams were ready to face each other and prove their worth.
Team Blue batted first and their start was not what you wish for in a finals. Sana Taj and Marium could not set the foundations for a big total and the rest of the batting line collapsed. Yamna of the Team Green bowled phenomenally well and took 3 wickets at the cost of 24 runs. Fatima also claimed a wicket, she conceded 11 runs in the process. And Saniya bowled economically well, giving only 3 runs in her over. Team Blue were able to score 38 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of 5 overs. Contribution from Mala in the concluding stages of the innings was the reason Team Blue posted a reasonable total. She scored 14 runs off 6 balls, and Team Green had to chase 39 runs in 5 overs to win the final.
It is always difficult to bat second in an important game. Apart from the opposition, you need to fight against the pressure and present your calm headedness. This is exactly what the girls in Green displayed as they recovered from a dismal start. Yusra was run out for just 3 and Team Blue had all the control over the game. But an exceptional effort from Fatima took the game away from Team Blue. She played her powerful strokes and dominated the bowlers. Scoring 27 runs off just 11 deliveries, Fatima showed how to bat in pressure situations. No bowler was able to get near the Team Green batting line up. With the help of 4 extras from the bowlers, Team Green wrapped up the game in the 3rd over for the loss of only 1 wicket.
In the end cricket was the real winner, as all the teams who participated in this tournament displayed great sportsman spirit and love for the game. The prestigious trophy for the Ideas Women’s Cricket Tournament was lifted by Team Green who remained an unbeatable force throughout the tournament.
